How to remove silence from a video

  1. Tap the box and choose a video or voice recording from your device — the file is never uploaded.
  2. Wait a few seconds while the tool listens to the file and finds the pauses, then pick a pace: Calm, Natural or Fast.
  3. Play the result and listen to it, move the red line to cut more or less, and tap any part of the timeline to delete or keep it.
  4. Decide on the orange sounds — coughs, breaths and “um”s: delete them all with one tap, or listen to them one by one.
  5. Save the video as MP4 or just the audio, or open the cuts in Premiere and DaVinci — no account, no watermark.

How does the tool tell silence from speech?

The tool measures loudness a hundred times a second and draws it on the timeline. The red line is the threshold: what is below it is silence to cut, what is above it stays. The line starts at the best spot for your voice and recording, and you can drag it yourself to cut more or less.

Alongside the line, an AI speech detector listens to the whole file. It keeps the soft ends of words, quiet speech and the tiny pauses inside a sentence from being cut even when their sound dips below the line, and it recognises sounds that are not speech — coughs, breaths — and marks them in orange so you decide. The result is shown instantly: you play it and hear it before saving anything.

Professional cuts you cannot hear

A good cut goes unnoticed. That is why the tool leaves a small, adjustable gap before and after speech, and places every cut exactly on a video frame boundary with a very short audio fade, so you hear no clicks. For precise edits, zoom into the timeline and drag it: the audio plays while you drag, and the edge of a cut snaps to the playhead and to where speech starts and ends. For a YouTuber feel, turn on “auto zoom”: the picture moves in slightly on one clip and back on the next, so the cuts look intentional.

Who is it for?

  • YouTube creators: a snappier video without hours of manual cutting.
  • Teachers, recorded courses and tutorials: remove the hesitations between sentences.
  • Podcasts, interviews and voice recordings.
  • Reels, Shorts and TikTok: a fast pace that keeps viewers watching.

Open the cuts in Premiere and DaVinci

If you finish the edit in another program, save the “Premiere project” in the same folder as the original video: a double-click opens it in Premiere Pro 2022 or newer with the video already cut on the timeline and linked to your file automatically — and you can stretch any clip to bring back what was cut. For DaVinci Resolve or older Premiere versions, save the XML file.

Tips for the best result

  • Record somewhere as quiet as you can: the less background noise, the more precise the cuts.
  • Start with “Natural”, then try “Fast” if you want a quicker pace.
  • If something you need was cut, tap it on the timeline and bring it back — every change can be undone.
  • To cut tighter after each sentence, lower “Keep after speech”, even below zero.

Want to keep editing?

Open the video in Fast Edit to add music and text or merge it with other clips, or upscale it up to 4K.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video or recording uploaded anywhere?

No. The file never leaves your device: listening to it, finding the pauses, cutting and saving all happen inside your browser. The only thing downloaded from our site is the tool itself — your files are never sent to us or stored.

Could the tool cut part of my speech?

It is built to protect speech. Alongside the red line, an AI speech detector keeps the soft ends of words, quiet speech and the tiny pauses inside a sentence from being cut, even when they dip below the line. We tested it on recordings with noise, music and a quiet microphone. You still see every cut before saving and can bring any part back with one tap.

What is the difference between Calm, Natural and Fast?

“Calm” cuts only long pauses (over a second) and leaves more room around speech — good for tutorials and lessons. “Natural” cuts pauses longer than half a second and suits most videos. “Fast” cuts anything over 0.3 seconds for the pace of Reels and TikTok. You can fine-tune every number yourself afterwards.

What about coughs, breaths and “um”s?

The tool recognises sounds that are not speech and marks them in orange, but it never cuts them unless you ask: delete them all with one tap, or listen to them one by one and decide on each.

Does the video lose quality when saved?

Practically no. The video is re-encoded at a slightly higher bitrate than the original so the picture stays the same, and the audio is saved at high quality with a very short fade at each cut, so you hear no clicks. There is no watermark and no sign-up.

Can I open the cuts in Premiere or DaVinci?

Yes. Save the “Premiere project” in the same folder as the original video and it opens in Premiere Pro 2022 or newer with the video already cut on the timeline and linked to your file automatically — and you can stretch any clip to bring back what was cut. For DaVinci Resolve or older Premiere versions, save the XML file.

Which formats are supported?

Video in MP4, MOV, WEBM and MKV, and audio in MP3, WAV and M4A. You can save an MP4 video, M4A or WAV audio, a Premiere project or an XML file.

Does it work on a phone?

It works in modern browsers that can process video inside the page, such as Chrome and Edge on computers and Android, and recent Safari. Phones are slower, so a computer is better for long videos. If your browser cannot save video, the tool tells you, and you can still save the audio or a Premiere project.

Is there a length limit?

There is no fixed limit; it depends on your device and the storage your browser may use. The tool analyses even a long video in seconds because it only listens to the audio; saving takes longer depending on the video length and your device.
